Born on October 8th 1985, into a musical family in Honolulu, Hawaii, Peter Hernandez later became famous by his stage name of Bruno Mars. His mother, Bernadette was a talented vocalist. His dad, Pete was a Latin percussionist and organized stage shows in Hawaii entertaining the lot. Mars grew up watching his family perform for the crowd and thus cultivated his interest in singing. His father first introduced him to the stage with an Elvis song and that was the beginning for Bruno Mars. He is well versed in various genres of music like hip hop, rock, pop, soul and reggae.
In 1992 Bruno Mars made his screen entry by playing a younger version of singer Elvis Presley for the movie “Honeymoon in Vegas”. Soon after graduation he moved to Los Angeles and signed up with Motown Records but it didn’t work out for Mars. He then met songwriter and producer Philip Lawrence and along with Ari Levine formed The Smeezingtons Production team. Bruno Mars was introduced to Atlantic Records in 2006 by Lawrence but it took three years to get him signed to write and produce for its artists.
Being a multitalented person with proven ability as a singer, actor, musician, producer and writer, he chose to be a singer. Initially he wrote songs for other artists like Flo Rida, Alexandra Burke, Adam Levine, Sean Kingston and K’naan. The song ‘3D’ from the album “Animal” marked his first musical album appearance.
Bruno Mars got recognition in his vocal stream with guest segments in B.oB’s “Nothin’ on You” and Travis McCoy’s “Billionaire”. Recently he released his debut album, “Doo-Wops & Hooligans” in October 2010. The lead song of the album, “Just the Way you Are” reached No 9 in the Billboard charts. The song also won him the Grammy Award for the Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
