Ellie Goulding is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist. Daughter of Arthur and Tracey Goulding, Elena Jane Goulding (Ellie) was born in Hereford, England and is the second of four children.

Ellie attended the Lady Hawkins School in Herefordshire, moving on to the Hereford Sixth Form College, and finally studying at the University of Kent. During her study at university, Ellie Goulding was advised to take a gap year to pursue her talent.

Ellie Goulding started her musical life at the age of nine, playing guitar and clarinet, and writing her own music. She attended the University of Kent to study drama and it was during her studies that she was exposed to electronic music.

She developed her sound with the aid of Frankmusik on the track “Wish I Stayed”. Ellie went on to work with Starsmith who became the primary producer of her debut album, Lights. Ellie decided to leave University after two years of study under a gap-year arrangement with her tutors, and moved to West London.

Ellie signed with Polydor records in 2009 and released her first extended player, An Introduction To Ellie. This was later followed by her debut studio album, Lights, in 2010.

Ellie Goulding rose to fame after winning the Critics’ Choice Award at the 2010 Brit Awards, and topping the BBC Sound of 2010 Poll.

Late in 2010 Ellie re-released her popular “Lights” album under the new title of “Bright Lights”.
