Katy Perry stepped in to singing as a Christian artist swaying away at churches and local restaurants. Born as a blessing to the music world, in October 1984, no one ever thought that she would grow up to be a world class pop singer. Her parents who were both devoted pastors forbid their daughter from listening to western music. It was a childhood slumber party that became a life changing event for Perry when she heard the voices of Alanis Morissette and Freddie Mercury. This opened newer arenas of music to her and within a few years time, this style of singing had become her mastery.
Religious singing had been Katy Perry’s favorite in the beginning years and her first album was released in 2001 which was self titled as “Katy Hudson”. This was a pure gospel album but couldn’t give her the success she yearned for. She then signed an album with the Matrix production company for its debut album release. It was not released but this gave Katy her fame in a write up of The Blender Magazine. Perry then worked on a solo album for Columbia but that project was also cancelled.
After a few years she resurfaced as Katy Perry with her first single “Ur So Gay” in November 2007. This wasn’t a big hit, but proved as an anchor to hold on to. It was “I Kissed a Girl” from the album “One of the Boys”, which topped the music charts in the year 2008. She was then seen at the Warped Tour that year and gained a good deal of popularity.
This paved way for her second hit, the ‘Teenage Dream’ in 2010. The first single “California Gurls” peaked to number one in the Billboard Hot 100. The album earned Katy Perry four nominations at the Grammy Awards in the year 2011.
