What are mp3 ringtones?
MP3 ringtones are the latest innovation in ringtone technology. In the “good old days” of monophonic and polyphonic ringtones the melodies were computer generated tones and synthesized music. MP3 ringtones are actual audio recordings and have an equivalent sound quality to a regular mp3 song download.
MP3 ringtones take one of two formats – sometimes being full songs, but largely they are shorter snippets from songs, maybe the chorus or the “best bit” of the song without intros, which makes them more appealing to have as a ringtone than a full song.
Some music artists even produce 30 second tracks designed specifically for use as ringtones. MP3 ringtones are also sometimes referred to as “true tones” or “real tones”.
Are mp3 ringtones just for music?
No. MP3 ringtones come in all styles. Naturally the largest proportion of mp3 ringtones will be music tracks/snippets but there are also now various sound effects and recordings of famous people and comedians in mp3 format.
