Wiz Khalifa is an American rapper who was born in Minot, North Dakota. His parents served in the military and divorced when Khalifa was around 3 years old.

Due to his parents military service, Khalifa moved around quite a lot and spent time living in Germany, England and Japan before he finally settled in Pittsburgh and attended the Taylor Allerdice High School.

Born Cameron Jibril Thomaz, his stage name derived from Khalifa, an arabic word meaning successor, and wisdom – later shortened to Wiz.

Khalifa released “Prince of the City: Welcome to Pistolvania” as a mixtape back in 2005. This led to the release in 2006 of his first full-length album, Show and Prove.

In 2006 Rolling Stone magazine declared Wiz Khalifa an “artist to watch”. One year later Khalifa signed to Warner Bros. Records and released 2 mixtapes through Rostrum Records. Wiz discontinued his association with Warner in 2009 but continued to work with Rostrum.

Wiz Khalifa was named 2010 “Rookie Of The Year” by “The Source”. He signed a deal with Atlantic Records in 2010.

Wiz Khalifa has a huge fan base, most notably seen after the release of his free mixtape, Kush and Orange Juice on April 14, 2010. The tag #kushandorangejuice became the number 1 trending topic on Twitter and the phrase “Kush and Orange Juice download” ranked No. 1 on Google’s hot search trends.
